How To

Take the Stress Out of Moving!

Good news! You found the perfect place to call home. Not so great news – now you have to move. While we can all agree that the act of moving isn’t exactly “fun,” there are a few ways to make the process easier.

Avoid the summer months
Nothing makes moving worse than having to do it in the middle of summer. Not only is it easier to move when the temperature cool down, rates may be lower as summer is considered high season. If you’re lease expires in the summer, try moving early in the morning or in the evening when it’s slightly cooler.

Sell or donate unwanted items
Moving is a great excuse to clean out your home of unwanted items. It will save you from having extra boxes and you can earn extra cash.

Plan ahead and stay organized
Waiting until the last minute to pack can cause chaos in the long run. Plan ahead by packing one room at a time and clearly labeling boxes. Additionally, reserve a box that contain items you may need as soon as you move in – cleaning supplies, hardware, toiletries, and a small set of cutlery (paper plates, utensils.)

Protect fragile items
Bubble wrap can be expensive! Use newspaper or even clothes to wrap fragile items. Place the heaviest items on the bottom to avoid things breaking.

Hire a moving company
If you don’t have the time or desire to box your belongings and load/unload them from a truck, consider hiring a professional moving company who will do the work for you. Be sure to research the breakdown of charges so you know exactly what to expect when it comes time for the bill.
